Serenity Prayer

God grant me
The serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
Courage to change the things I can,
And wisdom to know the difference.

This prayer has been the cry of my heart lately. I chose this photo to go with it, because it is a very peaceful scene and butterflies just instinctively seem to know the right path to follow and what to do when they get to their destination. Many times I've wished that I had that ability...

A Bug's Eye View

a tiny bug
fidgeting in the dirt
rests in the shadows,

sheltered from
the hot
searing rays of
the sun

under the canopy
of a thoughtful
flower.

Baby Monarch

A couple of weeks ago, my Director brought a monarch caterpillar into our classroom. The final phase of it's transformation happened late this afternoon. It's the first time that I've witnessed the process from beginning to end. Sadly, our newly winged friend chose to emerge while we were all out getting dinner, but it was a really fun surprise to come back to our classroom for Open House and find this gorgeous creation! I was really sad that I had to release it outside before I left for the evening...

Not even any elevator music...

I can relate to the Tick's monologue here. I'm not sure what's coming or going, but it would be good for me to "leave this place" that I'm in. I'm not talking about a physical place, necessarily, but emotionally and intellectually it would do me good to step out of the box I've felt stuck in lately. I'm still praying about how to go about that, but I'm hoping it's not a far off move.
"... I sense my destiny is at hand."

A Concert in the Park

What could be better than sitting outside on a temperate evening with an orchestra playing in the background, a good friend to chat with and a big cup of your favorite beverage from the coffee shop!

I went to a free concert in the "park" tonight with my friend, Melissa (a.k.a. my lil sis). We heard music that we recognized from TV commercials and old Bugs Bunny cartoons (obviously I'm not a big classical music expert) along with a medley of songs from The Sound of Music... There was a storm brewing in a nearby city, so the sky lit up often with lightening in the distance. Sometimes the lightening seemed to pulse and/or build with the music. It was a fun addition to the concert.

"Stars and Stripes Forever"

The night ended with fireworks and lightening filling the sky at the same time. The lightening wasn't constant, but when it happened, it looked really amazing streaking across the sky behind the fireworks.

PEZ

This is just a very small portion of my collection.
For some reason, I have always loved PEZ dispensers and candy.
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm... PEZ

Make sure to check out the PEZ links in the right column of this blog!

In This Moment

Cloudy days
have me walking
in murky gray,
as the rain drops
pierce my skin.
But once again
the Son peeks through
the dense fog
and shatters
the darkness.

Are you pondering what I'm pondering? NARF!!

I was really really excited when I saw that Pinky and The Brain were coming out on DVD. It's a collection of "22 favorite episodes from the Emmy Award winning series". For those of you who aren't familiar with the show, it's about 2 lab mice who try to take over the world every night with one flawed scheme after another. NARF! The Brain is supposed to be the smart one, and Pinky is his goofy sidekick. There are lots of references to movies and tv shows and they poke fun at politics and society frequently. It's mostly just really stupid, though sometimes clever, jokes that make me laugh a lot. If you ask nicely, I might let you borrow the DVDs... or better yet, we could have "cartoon night" at my place! :)

All I Have

Come, Lord Jesus, I
Ask You now.
I come before You
And I bow.

('Cause) I get so lonely. I
Get so tired.
I can't live another day,
Pushing You away.

So I offer You my life.
It's all I have to give.
'Cause deep in my heart
I know I
Need You to live.

(This actually came to me as a song this morning... If you can relate to the lyrics, please leave me a comment. I'd love to hear from you!)

The Perfect Perch

the fluttering butterfly
zigs
and
zags
and
flits
and
floats
through the air,
touching down
here and there,
(just for an instant);
subsequently
soaring,
searching
for
the perfect perch
on a
delicate,
delicious
flower.

WI State Fair

I went to the WI State Fair today with my friend, Bev. We heard some really good live music and a really bad DJ, saw some seniors line dancing, ate, shopped, saw lots of farm animals, ate, shopped, watched some races, ate, shopped... You get the idea! All in all, it was a GREAT day!
